- 1988 – First licensed in Ottawa. Issued Callsign VE3ZBB.
- 1990 – Obtained Advanced.
- 1991 – Met future husband Rod Newkirk W9BRD on 30M CW and again a year later. This blossomed into regular sked, marriage and Rod’s move from Chicago to Ottawa.
- 2000 - Rod acquired the counterpart callsign VA3ZBB. (See also VA3ZBB biography)
- 2013 - Rod became a Silent Key and Betty acquired VA3ZBB in 2013.
Additional Information
Active on HF CW and occasionally 2M FM. Regular participant on Pot Lid Slow Speed CW Net and Chapter 70 2M FM Net and at weekly Chapter 70 Tuesday morning
breakfasts. Also served as weekly net controller for Champlain Regional Repeater Net (VE3STP).
Joined QCWA and Chapter 70 in 2013 immediately on passing 25 year licensed requirement.
In addition to amateur radio, enjoys piano, stained glass, gardening, swimming, diving, and skating.
