Background
Bruce grew up on a farm near Alliston, Ontario.

- 1937-1940 – Wholesale Radio (Toronto)
- 1940-1945 – Royal Canadian Air Force – radar mechanic (technician)
- 1945-1973 – National Research Council – Radio & Electrical Engineering Div – Technician working on radar
- 1973 – Retired
Amateur Radio History
- 1933 – First licensed as VE3BE, which was given up to previous holder and given VE3YA. His rig was pair of 45’s self-excited on CW. The receiver was a two-tube regenerative set with plug-in coils. The whole station was battery-powered (no electricity on the farm).
- 1937 – In Toronto, built a 100 Watt phone rig, with a Hallicrafters SX-16 on 75M AM.
- 1946 – Now in Ottawa used same 100 watt transmitter but with an R-1155 Receiver.
Additional Information
After retirement, with the advent of SSB, Bruce never bought an HF rig and simply stayed with 2M FM.
Bruce was a member of QCWA and Chapter 70.
Bruce passed away June 18, 2002.
