Don was born in Ottawa but spent his early years in Stanstead, Quebec, before his family returned to Ottawa.

Member of OARTA and Technical Advisor (1948).

One of the earliest users of the OARC VE2CRA 2M FM Repeater for trips back and forth from Montreal.

Member of Montreal Amateur Radio Club and long-time teacher of the club’s amateur radio courses. Credited by fellow MARC member graduate with more than a thousand graduate licensed amateurs.

Very active in contesting and DX – both HF and VHF/UHF.

Don is one of the early Life Members of QCWA and a Life Member of Chapter 70.

He gave a presentation on “VHF/UHF DXing and Contesting” at the Chapter 70 November 2000 dinner meeting.

His QCWA Century Certificate was presented to him at the Chapter 70 May 2001 dinner meeting, and his QCWA “65 Years Licensed” Golden Certificate and lapel pin were resented to him at the Chapter 70 May 2010 Dinner Meeting.

He was presented with the first “Chapter 70 Life Member” certificate at the Chapter 70 September 2010 dinner meeting.

Don became a Silent Key on February 12, 2014-02-13.

He was inducted posthumously into the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame on Feb 17, 2015 at the Chapter 70 February meeting. The plaque was presented to Don's brother Jim and Sister Edna.
