Background
Joe grew up in Slovakia when it was part of Czechoslovakia.
Education / Employment History
- 1954 - Graduated Higher Technical College Bratislava (Electrical Appliances)
- 1959 - Graduated Technical University Bratislava (Electronics & Radio Technology)
- 1959 - Manufacturing company. Became Production Director then Managing Director.
- 1966 - British-Ghanaian Development Co Ltd in Accra - Technical Manager
- 1971 - Export/Import Company - Chief Engineer
- 1991-1992 Vice Chairman of leading Slovak political party
- 1993 - Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Counsellor for Trade and Economy (Ottawa)
Amateur Radio History
- 1947 - started as SWL at the age of 15 years
- 1951 - First licensed as OK3HM at age 18 years
- 1956 - passed examinations for Class A licence (phone privileges). Still worked mostly CW chasing DX on 40 and 20M. Achieved WAS, DXCC and WAZ
- 1966 - after move to Ghana active as 9G1HM. In the following period worked from India, Bangladesh, as SM2DWH/S2 and Cuba as CO2BO.
- 1993 - with separation of Slovakia from Czech Republic new call sign OM3HM
- 1993 - assigned call sign VE3AGY, later changed to VE3HMD. While in Canada work mostly 20M CW with an urban lot vertical antenna, plus some satellite (RS birds).
Additional Information
Joe was a member of AMSAT, WIA, RAC, RSGB, ARRL, SZR, and High Speed CW Club (35), and has written articles on antennas for “Amaterske Radio” in Slovakia.
1995 - operated as VK3BMD while in Australia
Joe passed away on Dec 10, 1997.
