Background
Education / Employment History
- 1939 - Bill joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and served in Iceland, Britain, Sicily, Italy and North West Europe during the WWII years.
- 1946 - He was posted to Norman Wells and then Dawson City on the RCCS North West Territories and Yukon System
Amateur Radio History
- 1946 - First licensed as VE8NH at Norman Wells, NWT then VE8AH at Dawson City, YT, while with the RCCS North West Territories and Yukon System.
This was followed by VE3CWB when he was posted to RCCS School at Kingston.
- 1957-1959 - He was posted to Germany and operated as DJ0BB
- 1959 - Back in Canada he was assigned VE3DXY.
Additional Information
Bill was a long-time member of VE3RCS.
During a six-month tour at Canadian Forces Base Alert, Bill founded their museum.
Bill was a Charter Life Member of Canadian Amateur Radio Federation (CARF). He wrote the first CARF amateur radio training manuals for Basic and Advanced Certificate study.
Bill trained over a hundred amateurs in the Kingston area and helped set up courses for others.
He joined QCWA in 1996 and was a member of Chapter 70. In 1998 he was presented with his “60 Year Licensed” Golden Certificate and lapel pin.
Bill passed away in Kingston on February 7, 1999.
