Background
Hank grew up in Hamilton, Ontario.
Education / Employment History
- After leaving school Hank had a radio service business.
- 1940 – 1967 - RCAF. He retired in 1967 as a Warrant Officer Class 1.
- During his 27-year RCAF career Hank was moved to Yukon, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario bases.
- 1967 - Until retirement, Hank was employed by InterTel Consultants Ltd (later InTel Consultants Ltd) as a specialist in military communications.
Amateur Radio History
- 1932 - First licensed as VE3QE. He was a Charter Member of Hamilton Amateur Radio Club.
- Operated as VE8CF while with RCAF in Yukon in 1940.
- Other call signs held throughout RCAF career were VE6CD, VE4IH and VE3BRE.
- He obtained VE3BR when the holder became inactive and failed to pay the $10 renewal fee.
Additional Information
Hank was active on all HF bands and 2M, both fixed and mobile.
He was a member of OARC and served as Secretary (1971-1975).
Hank joined QCWA and was one of the 21 charter members of Chapter 70 and its first Secretary- Treasurer, serving from its formation in 1974 until 1977.
He operated in the QCWA QSO Parties during the early years of Chapter 70.
ank was elected the first Canadian Director of QCWA at the Seattle Convention in 1977.
He became a Silent Key in February, 1989.
