Education / Employment History
- 1943-1949 - Royal Canadian Corps of Signals - Radio Operator/Technician.
- 1949-1976 - Department of External Affairs as an Electronic Technician, installing communications and cipher equipment in Europe (1949-1950) and USA (1952-1957). From 1957-1976 he taught External Affairs technicians the art of being self-sufficient in the field using a complete machine shop he set up in Ottawa.
- 1976 - Retired after 35 years with External Affairs.
Amateur Radio History
- 1947 - First licensed as VE3AOX.
- Member of OARTA and OARC and served as Vice President (1949-1950)
- 1952-1957 - operated as VE3AOX/W3 in the Washington area.
Additional Information
As of 1976, Ernie had built all his own amateur radio gear. It was still operating well.
He passed away on February 27, 1993 in Ottawa at the age of 81 years.
