National Capital Chapter 70 - Ottawa, Canada
VE1HU Biography
Claude Bailey - SK - QCWA# 30029 (Silent Key)
Background
Claude grew up in New Brunswick
- He was self-taught in radio. As a teenager he would purchase parts for building equipment. By figuring out just how these components worked, he kept on experimenting and thereby learning.
- Claude worked for NB Radio and the radio experimentation was never far from his thoughts. The New Brunswick Government obtained war surplus radio equipment and Claude, now working there, refurbished much of this, establishing a network between the Department of Forestry locations. He was instrumental in developing most of the radio systems now in use around the Province of New Brunswick - among them the Highway Patrol, the Ambulance/Hospital Services, Department of Transport, Sheriffs and Veterinary Services.
- Claude retired in 1985.
